At Home Activities Year 1&2

Instructions for Parents:

I recommend students do 10-15mins of music activities per day. Students can pick one or two activities from below:

Listening and Creating Activities

  1. Listening to a song, and pat the beat

  2. Find in your house 5 things that make loud sounds, and 5 things that make soft sounds. Create a performance using these sounds to perform to someone at home.

  3. Find in your house 5 things that make high sounds, and 5 things that make low sounds. Create a performance using these sounds to perform to someone at home.

  4. Listen to a piece of music and draw the picture that the music creates in your mind.

  5. Make an instrument from recycled materials and compose a song using your instrument.

  6. Create a dance to your favourite piece of music. Perform to someone at home.

Students sing along with the song. Once they know the words, come up with some different words you can use for the song. Students can also come up with actions for the song to perform.

Students can find objects in the house to set up a 'sun', 'moon' and 'chimney'. Students can use a toy to move around the objects with the song. Once students can sing the song confidently, they can change the words and come up with different things for Sally to go around.

Students sing along with the song. Once they know the words, come up with some different ways to perform the song.

Parents can clap different rhythms for students to clap back. Parents can say the chant, and help students learn the words. Students can also pat a beat while they chant the words.

I had a little pig, I fed him in a trough.

He got so fat that his tail popped off,

I got me a hammer, I got me a nail,

And I made my pig a brand new tail.
